If you’ve ever been to a concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana, you know the feeling when you step outside: the excitement of the show still with you, the streets of El Born lit up, and that urge to stretch the night a little longer. Now imagine that just across the street, a freshly served artisan Italian gelato is waiting for you. That’s exactly what you find at La Palau.
Our ice cream shop is at number 14 on Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt, right opposite the main entrance of the Palau de la Música. No need to search on Google Maps or walk ten minutes — you come out of the concert, cross the road and you’re already here.
Why La Palau is the ideal ice cream shop after a concert
Most concerts at the Palau de la Música end between 21:00 and 22:30. At that hour, many ice cream shops in Barcelona have already closed. At La Palau we open every day until 23:30, so you always make it in time.
The location couldn’t be more convenient either. There’s no need to take the metro, a taxi or walk through unfamiliar streets. You literally cross the road and you’re at the door. It’s the perfect plan to round off an evening at the Palau: come out of the concert, order two scoops of gelato and stroll through El Born while you enjoy it.
Over 80 artisan gelato flavours
The gelato we serve at La Palau is made artisanally by Menodiciotto, a workshop founded in Turin in 1986 by master gelatiere Luca Grassi. Every week we receive fresh gelato made with 100% natural ingredients and no preservatives.
The full catalogue has over 80 flavours, from Italian classics such as pistachio, stracciatella, fior di panna and tiramisú to bolder options like mojito, lemon and sage or melon and chilli. There are also options for every taste and dietary need: over 60 flavours are gluten-free, there is a dedicated vegan range, and all fruit sorbets are suitable for vegans and the lactose intolerant.
You can browse all the flavours on our ice cream menu.
Not just gelato: waffles, juices and coffee
If after the concert you fancy something more than ice cream, at La Palau we also serve artisan Belgian waffles with toppings of your choice, freshly squeezed orange juice, natural fruit juice, Valencian horchata and coffee. Everything perfect for a sweet break after a night of music.
Before the concert too
Although the most natural combination is ice cream after the concert, many visitors to the Palau de la Música stop by before the show. If you arrive with time to spare and want something to do while you wait, having a gelato opposite the Palau is the best way to start the evening. With our hours from 12:30 to 23:30 we cover both afternoon and evening concerts.
An ice cream shop with its own name
It’s no coincidence we’re called La Palau. The Palau de la Música Catalana isn’t just opposite our ice cream shop — it’s part of our identity. We’re in the heart of El Born, in one of the most charming corners of Ciutat Vella, surrounded by the Modernista architecture that makes this Barcelona neighbourhood unique.
If you’re planning a visit to the Palau de la Música — whether for a concert, a guided tour or simply to admire the facade — you already know where your ice cream shop is.
